What to Bring to Your First Driving Lesson

Superior Driving School · May 6, 2026

Your first driving lesson is exciting — come prepared and you will get the most out of it.

Bring your valid NY learner permit. By law you cannot drive without it, and your instructor will need to see it before you get behind the wheel.

Bring any glasses or contact lenses you need for driving. If your permit lists a corrective-lens restriction, you must wear them.

Wear comfortable, flat shoes — no heels, no sandals — so you can feel the pedals. And relax: every one of our cars is dual-control, so your instructor can always keep you safe.
