Is the 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Class Required in New York?
Superior Driving School · April 18, 2026
In New York State, you must complete a 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course before you can take your road test (unless you complete a high-school or college driver-education program).
The course covers the dangers of driving — alcohol and drugs, distractions, defensive driving techniques, and the responsibilities that come with a license.
At Superior Driving School we run the class live online over Zoom, so you can complete it from home. When you finish you receive the MV-278 certificate required to schedule your road test.
Seats fill quickly. Check our upcoming class dates and reserve your spot online in a couple of minutes.
